Female Genital Mutilation
Female “circumcision” continues to be a common, barbaric practice in twenty eight countries, primarily in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is also a concern within specific immigrant communities in the West, including Canada and the United States.
In Canada FGM is considered to be child abuse, and children who are at imminent risk may be removed from their family home to prevent its occurrence.
